Einstürzende Neubauten, Wound Style Logo
This is another tattoo on my good friend Michael Lavey, tattooed in Seattle before Apocalypse Tattoo opened. Around 1998 or 1999 Einstürzende Neubauten was having an online competition for tattoo submissions of their logo to be used on the then forthcoming album 'Silence Is Sexy' for the cover art. The album concept was genius. In order to be independent from any record company, they were asking for donations in advance to finance production of the album. In return you would get copies of all of their previous albums (which they suggested that you steal from record stores as they never received a penny from any of them) and a copy of the new album after its release. That way they could stay DIY and have no label affiliation whatsoever. Anyway, back to the tattoo, they received so many submissions that they decided to just print them all on the tour poster and were kind enough to mail one to me and one to Michael from Berlin. Pretty fucking cool! This was also my first 'wound style' tattoo. An idea that we came up with to add a new, well rendered element to the logo for a cool tattoo, while still keeping in theme with the raw feeling of their music.
